About Shinkolobwe Mine
The mine that secretly supplied the Manhattan Project. Uranium from this Katanga mine was refined for the first atomic bombs. The pitchblende ore was among the richest ever found. First mined for radium in the 1920s. Officially closed in 2004 after decades of unregulated digging. One of the most consequential mines in world history.
