About Rossing Mine
One of the longest operating open-pit uranium mines in the world. Opened in 1976 in the Namib Desert, one of the driest places on Earth. The pit is more than 300 m deep. Supplied uranium to European and Asian nuclear programs for decades. A Chinese state company acquired a controlling stake. Continues to operate past its originally planned closure dates.
