About Kryvyi Rih Basin
One of the largest iron ore basins in the world. Mining began in 1881 in central Ukraine. Deposits stretch over 100 km along a narrow belt. Mines reach nearly 2 km deep, among the deepest iron operations anywhere. The basin supplied steel for Soviet industry for decades. The city of Kryvyi Rih is the heart of Ukrainian iron country.
