The largest iron ore mine in the world. Located in the Amazon region of Para state. The ore is exceptionally rich at around 66 percent iron. Discovered in 1967 after a helicopter was forced to land on a bare red hill where compasses spun wildly. An 890 km railroad hauls ore to the Atlantic coast. Run by Vale, the biggest iron ore miner on Earth.
