About Zacatecas Mines
One of the great silver camps of the Spanish Empire. Discovered in 1546, a generation after the conquest of Mexico. Rich veins produced silver for over four centuries. Silver from here helped finance Spain for centuries. The city built baroque churches above the tunnels with mining wealth. The historic El Eden mine now welcomes tourists underground.
