About Batu Hijau
A major copper and gold mine on the island of Sumbawa. The name means green rock in Indonesian. Production began in 2000 after discovery in 1990. The open pit is carved into the side of a mountain. Now majority owned by Indonesian companies after divestment. One of the biggest mines in the country after Grasberg.
