The second largest salt mine in the world. Legend says the deposit was found when horses in the army of Alexander the Great licked the salty stones. Industrial mining began in 1872 under the British. A mosque and small post office are built entirely of salt bricks. Produces hundreds of thousands of tonnes of salt per year. Source of famous pink Himalayan salt.
