About Hishikari Mine
The highest grade gold mine in Japan and among the richest in the world. Ore averages around 30 to 40 grams of gold per tonne. Discovered in 1980 after geologists studied local hot springs. Production began in 1985. Operated by Sumitomo Metal Mining. Veins of glittering gold and quartz are visible on underground tours.
