About El Teniente

The largest underground copper mine in the world, operating since 1906. Over 3,000 km of tunnels extend through the mountain at depths past 1,200 m. Located at 2,200 m altitude in the Andes near Rancagua. New mining levels under construction will extend operations beyond 2050. Its workers have staged some of the longest strikes in Chilean history.
