About Bogatyr Mine
One of the largest coal mines in the world by area. Located in the Ekibastuz coalfield of northern Kazakhstan. The open pit is about 5 km long. The mine has produced well over a billion tonnes of coal. Its coal feeds power stations across Kazakhstan. The name comes from a word for giant heroes of Russian folklore.
