One of the largest copper and zinc mines in the world. Located at 4,200 m altitude in the Peruvian Andes. Production began in 2001. A 300 km pipeline carries concentrate to the Pacific coast. The deposit was known since the 1800s but only mined in modern times. Owned by a consortium of five companies.
